can anyone tell me how to replace the heater core? its been getting colder and l dont have a heater and im pretty sure that is wats wrong with my heater
i know l have to take out the dash but l dont know wat else im suppose to do
how do l flush it out?

Unfortunately you have to pull the whole dash out..Is it leaking or is it plugged? Have you tried flushing it..Alot of times that works

the easiest way to do it yourself is to go to the auto parts store and buy a haynes repair manual.. it will have step by step instructions on how to do almost all repairs on the car with torque specs and some photos to help explain. they usually run around $20 - $30 but can help save a lot more than that.hope this helps and good luck

It is rare to have to replace the heater core, unless it is leaking. Make sure there is enough coolant in the radiator. l have have this happen before, the heater seems like it is not working but it was just low coolant and an air bubble was in the heater core.
Check also the linkage that switches on the heater to be sure it is connected and working.

First remove all the water from ur system by draining the radiator, it is best to do it this way so u can add new coolant & keep the mess to a minimum, after ur water is drained, go ahead & remove the heater core feed lines.

Remove top of dash pad, do this by removing several screws located under the foward lip of the pad, do not forget the screws in the defroster vent holes!

Remove the lower trim panel from the underside passenger side dash ( if there is one there)

Look under the dash on the passenger side & u will see the plastic box in which houses the heater core, remove all the screws that surround this box, there will be one screw on the top that will be very difficult to get at, this is why u have removed the top of the dash so u can get at it with two hands,if u need to see this screw get outside of the car & look down at the dash from the passenger side & then ur going to have to depend on feeling with ur hands.

At this point u should have the plastic box off & now ur looking directly at the heater core, the core is held in place by a steel clamp fastened with screws, remove these screws, & remove the clamp.

Now it is time to remove the heater core , get some plastic sheeting & lay it around the passenger foot well because there going to be some water in the core yet, pull it out gently, u might have to wiggle & gently pull, take ur time, it should come out fairly easy.

Once u have the old core out, it is time to install the new one, l can not tell u how important it is at this point to be very patient when installing the new core, u may have to slightly bend the new core tubes to get them through the firewall, u may end up taking it out a couple of times BE CAREFUL!

Once u have sucessfully got the core in place, install the core clamp, then re-assemble.

take it to a shop to have it flushed
