Hi...I am very interested in the Mustang LX. I've seen plenty of them and l think its a very cool car, not gaudy, and just right for me.
The only thing is...l want one but know next to nothing about buying used cars.
I am just guessing they only came out in the late 80's/early 90's, so its not possible there are any new ones out you can buy.
And what is the difference between a Mustang LX and a Mustang GT?
And one more question...are they stick shifts or regular automatics? I'd hate for them to be stick shift cars.

The third generation (1979–1993) is probably what your seeing

LX means Luxury Edition GT means Grand Touring edition. witch just means if it comes with power options, leather and engine sizes ex.

Almost every car comes in both manual or automatics incuding the mustang (automatic is an upgrade manual is stranded in cars).

third generation mustangs are usually overpriced because there are not a lot of rwd sports car in that year range.

I'd look for one between 1987-1993. Mustangs in that generation r called Fox-Bodies & they're really popular with the performance crowd because they r fast, along with being cheap & easy to modify. l personally think that the Fox Body Mustangs were the best cars Ford ever made. With a powerful 5.0 V-8 engine, they could offer impressive factory performance & still deliver 22mpg average.

l owned a 1990 Mustang GT 5.0 & it was a great car. Mine was a manual, but most of them came with automatics. Plus, automatics r cheaper on the used car market because everyone wants a manual. Basically, the LX Mustang is much more basic than the GT. GTs r hatchbacks with a rear spoiler & body kit, while LX is r shorter, slightly lighter, & have a trunk instead of a hatch. But LX is still come with the same optional 5.0 HO V-8 as the GTs. They also made a LX hatchback.

*if you get the lx with the 5.0 option, u will be faster than the the gt, simply because the lx 5.0 and the gt have the same hp/tq, but the lx doesnt have the ground effects the gt has, so the lx5.0 weighs a little less.

In my opinion, much of the information before was misinformed. Basically LX is the designation given to the base model mustang. The base Fox platform(79-93) LX had a 4cyl motor, cloth seats, power windows etc. were options. The LX was available in coupe & hatchback, & convertable. The GT was only hatchback & convert. The 5.0 LX has all the same parts as the GT, minus seats, ground effects, wheels, tail lights & fog lights & a few other options. For example, most LX 5.0 mustangs came with a 2.73 rear end ratio, all automatics had this rear end, a 3.08 rear end came stock on most 5-spd GT's. As far as performance goes, they r nearly the identical. The weight saved from the groundeffects, (maybe 40 pounds by my best estimate) is probably saved in the GT interior & wheels. LX 5.0 is arent shorter, & ride on the identical chassis of the GT. A GT with 3.08 is in the rear r much more responsive than the 2.73 geared cars, & noticeably faster. However, it is beyond me why anybody would prefer an automatic mustang. They get worse gas mileage, loose performance, & r just all around less enjoyable to drive. If u want a car with an automatic, l am going to have to recomend looking for a car better suited to ur needs. These r used 15+ year old cars, which require additional maitenence & some mechanical understanding to be able to enjoy them. Most have 100K miles on them, & youll go broke if u have to pay someone to fix everything, everytime.
