It depends upon how thorough a job you want to do.

If you completely rebuilt the engine, bringing everything back to new factory specifications, it would cost you about $2000. Very few DIY'ers do that complete a job.

You would be better off looking for an already rebuilt 302 unless u have an attachment to the current motor. Not sure if u have the skill to pull & drop a different engine either. If u can do all the work yourself & rebuild the current engine, u could get away for about 1K. This assumes u pull the engine apart & have the various parts rebuilt.

If u bring it into a shop..you could be looking at 2500~3000. We did this with my Dad is truck because the body was in good shape but the engine was shot. He went to a 10 minute oil change place & the oil filter was not tightened. Over the course of a few days it vibrated loose, & well, that is why the engine was replaced.

That is impossible to tell until you get it torn down and see what all needs replacing.

You can not tell till u have the engine apart. Then it depends on how much money u r willing to spend.
If u want to do it yourself there is a small fortune to be spent for tools alone.
l like to rebuild my own engines, & there r times l do. But if it is just for a daily driver it maybe (will be) to just get a low mileage one from a salvage yard. It is not like a 302 is hard to find. Several of the engines l have rebuilt were not that easy to find (let alone one in good shape. Ever try to find a 221 V-8 from the Windsor family? Or that u r trying to squeak out a few more horse power for a street machine.
Ball park 500 dollars in parts, 250 dollars in tools & another 200 for machining. But it could be less, if the cylinders r not to worn, the bearings r just going out (or r still good). Of course if the heads r shot that could be another 500 dollars.
So if u have the time, go for it. It will take u several weeks to get it done. If u plan on letting someone else do it, just buy a crate engine from a local supplier.

that all depends on what you want to do to it. are you going to change pistons Valves, or are you just going to tare it down clean it up and put in new gaskets. If your going the first rout pistons will coast you about $50.00 a peace. It did me when l did a GMC mot er. You'd be looking at a Meir couple hundred to about a couple $1000.00

depends on how many new parts you put in like you replace the just the rings and gaskets 200 bucks maybe replace pistons about 50 to 100 each cam 200 maybe depends on size crank 400 so really depends on whats being done could buy a used one from auto slavage yard just as good

Dont bother rebuilding it. Get a remanufactured long block, they go for 1200-1500 bucks. You get a warranty usually 3 years and it can be installed in an easy weekend. If you are paying a shop look in the 2500-3000 dollar range for everything.
