l am trying to find out what is wrong with my car. Sometimes, it takes a few tries to start my car up. l turn the key and......click. Nothing. The engine does not crank or make any other sound.(no grinding). l am trying to figure out if its the starter motor, selenoid, or relay. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there a way to fix the problem myself because l dont feel like paying an arm and a leg if its not that complex
new battery and l tried the headlight test and they were pretty bright
would a bad clutch sensor show the same symptoms?

well 2 things come to mind,based on your post
#1 is the battery cables are old and fucked up. in that case l would change them. An indicator of that is hearing any type of ''click'' noise.
#2 is the clutch safety is fucked up. and needs a repalcement. an indicator of that is not hearing a click.

loud click ,,,solenoid problem,starter,loose cable connection

faint click,,,clutch switch, ign. switch,weak battery

Not sure if it helps but l had that exact problem with my Jeep Grand Cherokee, what l would do to get it to start was to bang on the starter with a heavy object a few times and it would go. Eventually l replaced the starter and it was fine. l suspect it was caused by a faulty solenoid. Good luck!

try doing an alternator output test, starter draw test, and check your voltage drops
