Front or rear? Ok the sway bar controls movement of the body, also called sway. It is a long steel bar located laterally (side to side) of the front & rear suspension. It connects the body to something unsprung(like the axel, or front a-arms). Its the only peice of metal tubing running from one side to the other. It connects via end-links, which look like long bolts, with busings on both ends & a nut. Once u figure out what ur sway bar is, look at the ends, & see if one of these bolts (links) r broken. They r easy to diagnose with a good eye if u know what ur looking. They will be broken & hanging, or mearly seperated, which usually results in a clunk over bumps or when turning. hope this helps.

The above answer is helpful, but more than likely ur sway bar links have become worn rather that broken. Escapes r particularly bad for worn sway bar links. If u were to be underneath the vehicle, grab the lower end of the sway bar link where it is connected to the sway bar itself. Now try to rock the sway bar link up & down. If there seems to be play in the link, often accompanied by a clunk, the link is worn. If the link has no play, then it is more than likely okay. Often times one side will be worn while the other may not be. It is still recommended to replace them in pairs though. Good luck.
