How much time and money would it be to change a car from front to rear wheel drive?

it would not be worth it unless you have a ton of money and can weld and fab like a pro. You might as well buy a new car and start over.

too much time, l dont think you can do it, never heard of it being done either, the frame for a rear-wheel and front-wheel drive are completely different, l WOULD NOT ATTEMPT IT.

l have been considering doing this myself. You would need to create a frame from behind the front suspension all the way to the back of the car to accommodate a rear wheel drive suspension of some kind, & to give the body some strength.

A time & money estimate would be no more than a guess. If u already had the drivetrain parts & steel tubing for the framework, it would mostly be a matter of having a good plan & lots of cutting & welding.

l have wanted to do this ever since l owned my '95 Pontiac Grand Prix, which is long gone. l had it all built in my mind, just never had the time or space.

LOL it really depends on the car.

l have a Ford Festiva front wheel drive l bought for about $6K.

So maybe it costs a lot more than the car is worth to convert it, but for those that can afford it it is a cool idea. But even Leno admits he could have bought a Corvette for the cost of converting the Festiva, & mainly what he gets out of this is the thrill of a sleeper.

WOW! That is a major project.

It can be done but takes a lot of patience, a full shop with overhead lift & great welding skills. You would need access to a machine shop & someone who is willing to come over & make accurate measurements to get everything to fit properly. It would be cheaper to find a good used rear drive vehicle that is closest to ur target & go with that.
Hang tight a bit longer. l have a strong suspicion the price of ur ''rear drive car'' will be dropping fast after the first of the year when gas prices leap back up to $3.00

unless you plan on driving it backwards down the road do not bother you'd basically have to re-engineneer the whole car.
