my power steering is having problems. Steering is hard and l have been having a humming noise on the power steering pump. l have been adding fluid of and on for 6 months. Well today the steering was hard like a rock got home and discovered Fluid all over by the pump area. l also inspected the hose and the Rack and discovered no leeks.l this a good indication of the Pump going out.

fix the pump before you destroy the rack and pinion.

Your pump has a return line and it also is a cooling for the pump. l think you have a leak on that line. The suction of the pump brings in air and that is the reason for the boil over and loss of fluid. Hope that helps!

my old half ton went through fluid like crazy too. the pump, gearbox/rebuild kit is PRICEY! l ran that ''lucas power steering stop leak''. that $hit is thicker than monkey snot and seems to do a good job. it will buy you time anyways and wo not piss out near as quickly. what kind of vehicle? I've heard the 90 is ford pickups were notorious for this. but l think turning 33'' tires did mine in.

If no hoses are leaking than it prolly needs a new pump.
