98 FORD EXPLORER. l HAD NEW T-STATE AND COOLANT SERVICE DONE YESTERDAY. NOW MY AC COMPRESSOR CLUTCH CLICKS ON AND OFF EVEN WHEN AC IS OFF AND DEFROST IS OFF JUST HEAT BLOWING OUT OF VENTS FLOOR AND DASH ONLY. ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING THIS. IAM THINKING A POSSIBLE BAD RELAY?? PLEASE HELP

I'd check the relay for sure and look at the area they worked in check for loose connections or faulty wires going to the A/C clutch assembly.

Could be a refrigerant leak, but if this same symptom on my old 94 Ranger was any clue, the AC clutch coil is going bad.

About $90 and an hour of labor to allow a shop tech to align the new clutch properly will do.

Take it in for a re-gas on your ac

your compressor will recycle to remove any and all moisture in the heating and ac system even when all accessories are off nothing to worry about it is normal

Most Ford Explorers come equipped with ATC (Automatic Temperature Controls). The ATC system r different than most other systems (manual type) because the ATC systems automatically adjust the settings (from hot to cold, ac on or off) to achieve the temperature u have chosen. The ATC is will automatically turn on the ac on just about all the settings.

If the ac compressor is turning on when everything on ur control head is off, then ur control head is bad.

If the ac compressor is turning on when u have something on (floor, heat, vent) then this is normal.

The compressor is designed to cycle on & off. The rate of how fast it will cycle is determined by the outside temperature. The colder the day is the faster it will cycle off. Typically the compressor will stay on longer the initial time it engages. Once it reaches its optimal temperature, there is no need for the compressor to stay on so it will cycle off quicker. l have seen compressors cycle every 10 to 15 seconds. However, if it is cycling on & off every 5 seconds or so, the system is low on refrigerant & needs to be recharged.
