l bought a 96 mustang 3.8L v6 for two grand and it has 200000 miles on it. The motor was recently rebuilt and its in good working condition but it seems that everybody l talk to about it says that l should get a v8. Whats your opinion on it? I am 20 yrs old and want a fast car but do not have tons of money to waste on gas if l get a v8. Should l just use my money to upgrade my stang to make it look and perform amazing (although still v6) or would a 4.6 swap be a better investment? Its my only car and so l rely on it alone for transportation. l do not drag race or anything like that but l am into cars and would like to have an incredible car either way. Also what are some advantages and disadvantages for v6 and v8? Thanks in advance for any input.

upgrade the v6 just as easy less things to mess with. get in a mustang forum theres many to pick from so id type in something like mustang Performance forum get in one or more of these and you can talk with peope who as been there or are doing tha same thing

It is a good deal so long as it is in good condition.

I'd do the V8 swap. Those V6 is only get every so slightly better mileage than the V8 is do, and they make a lot less power. The V8 is, dare l say, an all around better engine to.

If it runs good and you do not race it why spend an extra $1000 to $1500 for an engine swap and you might be putting in a worn out engine. Just drive it as is. Also with 200,000 miles on it the rear end and transmission wo not stand a whole lot of abuse that a V8 will give it. Ignore your friends, they are just trying to act like they know It all..

No it has alot of miles. The rear end broke on my brothers car at like 115,000 miles (2000 mustang). l think that car is due for a huge mechanical problem.
