l recently put a new belt on.Then it chirped after this.l took it back and got the idler pulley and the tension pulley replaced (not the whole kit).It stopped for a week and then was louder.l put another belt on.It stopped for 1 week.Now it does it and belt dressing makes it louder.Someone help its on my last nerve. Thanks

one of the pulleys is not lined up right.if you look from the drivers side at the belt system they should all be even. if one is just a mm out too far or in to far it will cause belt noise and belt wear/ failure. good luck

Belt dressing should not of been used. l have had this happen on many vehicles that l have replaced the belt. After checking pulleys for running true, l have found sometimes, but not always, a fine piece of debris like paint, undercoat, glue to name a few on the inner edge of one of pulleys or a weak belt tensioner. Some times taking the serpentine belt off & reinstalling the belt in the opposite order of the way it previously rotated took care of the problem. Also check the new belt for a rough edge.

These 3.0L Vulcan V6s r famous for a variety of things to cause a belt squeal.

Common reasons for the belt squeal on these Rangers r glazed pulley surfaces, stretched belt, bearings wearing out in idler pulley or tensioner pulley (or both pulleys at the same time), & a weak belt tensioner causing belt slip. l have a 2003 Ranger V6 with just under 90K & I've replaced the belt tensioner, idler pulley, & installed a new belt. None of these new parts fixed the squeal. l am waiting to install a new fan clutch (mine is very hard to turn when engine is off & stone cold). Converting to an electrical fan is not an option for me.

It is also well known that on the rear of these 3.0L engines is that when the crankshaft angle sensor begins to wear it sounds just like a belt squeal so verify that the noise is actually from the belt & not the rear of the engine. This part is also commonly refered to as a cam position synchro. They begin squealing & eating itself up due to lack of oil keeping it lubricated. DO NOT LET THIS PART FAIL! IF IT FAILS YOUR ENGINE WILL SEIZE! You can start the engine without the serpentine belt & let it run. If it squeals without the belt in place then that sensor is bad. Also, with the belt off tension turn the alternator pulley by hand. It should turn smoothly & with any resistance at all.

Lastly, other Ranger enthusiasts may tell u ''put a Goodyear Gatorback belt on it,'' but bear in mind simply replacing the belt does NOT fix the squealing for everyone. Put one on anyway just so u have the best belt available on there. In other cases simply replacing the belt alone is like turning ur radio loud so u do not have to hear the other noises ur car/truck makes. Register on the websites l list below. EDIT: You did not specify what engine is in yours. These trucks came with 3 different motors. 2.3/2.5 four cylinder, 3.0L overhead valve (pushrods), & a 4.0 single overhead cam. The info l am giving is in reference to the 3.0L.
