l use Kendell semi-synthetic so 6000 mile changes are normal? Oil still pretty clear too.

l wouldnt recommend it. do what it says on the bottle. ive never seen synthetic oils that go up to 6,000, but if this happens to be one, go for it. if it isn't, do urself a favor and change it sooner if you want that focus to stay in good condition for many years

What year is your car? Some of today is cars and synthetic oils are being designed to last 7500 to 10,000 miles before an oil change.

You should check your owner is manual to see what they recommend and follow that. Of course, it never hurts to change it sooner.

l have an '01 Focus & the owner is manual says u can go as far as 7500 mi between oil changes if u do mostly highway driving or do not drive in ''extreme conditions''. l do not drive it like a racecar & 75% or so of my miles r at highway speeds, so I've stuck to the 7500 mile recommendation.

In winter months l use Castrol Syntec (it gets REALLY cold where l live in the winters & synthetic oil flows easier at extremely low temps), & in the summer months l use the Motorcraft synthetic blend oil (because it costs about 1/2 as much as the Castrol Syntec) I've been doing oil & filter changes every 7500 miles since l bought the car new with no problems..and the car currently has 151,000mi on it & still runs great, so I'd say u will be just fine to wait another 1000mi.

l have been around engines since l was born(literally) & would NOT recommend going six thousand no matter what oil u use. l have torn down more motors than l could count & u would be amazed the difference that oil changes every three thousand miles make. Even though the new synthetics claim to retain their viscosity longer there is still contamination from the combustion of the fuel. Also, no matter the design or how often u change the oil parts wear & fine bits of metal r suspended in the oil causing further wear. The filter only traps a certain amount & the smaller pieces flow right back out. For years l have stuck a strong magnet on the end of the filter on everything l own. On occasion l have cut the filter apart & shown people just how much can float around if it is not captured or removed by changing the oil. Fram used to have a commercial with the saying''you can pay me now or pay me later''. Very true! The cost of oil changes every three thousand miles against the price of a new engine with laborcosts = no comparison.
