Hey everyone, l bought a 302 v8 from a '69 mustang and l wanted to drop it in my '74 mustang. (YES...out with the 4 cyclinder mistake!) l have a 4 speed manual transmission and l wanted to know if the bellhousing would fit and the transmission would hold up fine. l know the v8 is before and after this year held up fine with a c4...so l was thinking the manual version would do just fine. l can not seem to find this information anywhere and l know that this swapout has been done by tons of people.thanks!

Hi Broxtond.. Of-course it will.. You have one of the best brands on the market in ur hands right now.. People r just jealous..:-) Do not listen to it.. That is awesome.. l love standard myself.. l am building a mud-buggy out of a boxed jeep frame & running gear with a big-block FORD 351-HO out of a 1986 F-350.. It is just to toy around with when l need to get away from the meat-grinder work world..

What kind of manual is it, ford made different brands..? l have the 5-speed out of the truck, those where the best as their stronger..

u will have to have a bellhousing, flywheel starter that fit good trans shop can answer alot of these question some granada parts count flyheel teeth make sure of right balance for engine flywheel harmonic balancer factory mustang auto use 2700 stall converter balance of fly wheel must be checked [internal or external] & dampner must match as long as its a mild 302 trans should hold up also go online car craft magazine they did one years ago also comet & maverick parts will work ask ur freindly junkyard mechanic what will work they have interchange book

the 302 was only offered in the '75 and up, so it will take a lot of work to put it in a 74..

Actually,with the proper bell the motor will drop right in. The 2.4L uses the same exact motor mount locations in the K-member as the 3.8L V6 and the 302 V8.
