In January l got a 2001 ford escape for my first car (Yippee!) So far it is been non-stop problems but the problem now is with the start up. There are three buttons on a thing that unlocks and locks the car. One unlocks it and allows you to turn on the car, one locks it and turns on the alarm, and one turns on a different alarm. l have already known that you have to unlock the car and when you start it you have to click the button again to allow you to turn it on. Now it makes me do it 3-5 times to allow me to turn on the car. Also, l was going home from my moms house and l had my light on inside because l was doing something for a second: l went to turn on the car and it would not let me (it was doing that nasty start up thing old cars do) at first l was like ''Ohhhh crap.....'' l took the keys out, pressed the buttons a few more times and did it again. Same thing. l thought l maybe pressed the wrong button so l checked to make sure l pressed the right button, did it again, nope. l checked to make sure l did not leave on the lights or something beefore l went inside the first time and l didn't. l did notice after the third time trying to turn on the car once l had it finally turned on l smelt gas.

l finally found out how to turn it on: Turn off the inside lights then turn it on. l have been able to turn on my car and drive with the inside lights on before (yes, l forgot about them)

We just had the actual battery replaced. We have two of the key things so l could always change it.

The alarm on the button is the alarm you would press if you can not find your car in a shopping lot.

Try replacing the battery on the key fob. It sounds like that could be a big problem making you have to push the button over and over again.

l only read about problems related to the alarm system, and l am guessing it is not a factory-installed alarm. Perhaps you should think about having this removed or replaced by someone who knows what they're doing.

ok, ur remote, the left button is to lock the doors all 4, the one on the right is to open only the driver side door after one press, now if u press this button twice within a seconds worth of time, it opens all four doors. The red button is to find ur escape if u cant find it in a parking lot. Now there r some things about an escape u need to know & know it now, the throttlebody needs to be propery cleaned, after every 15,000 miles, or the valve will stick. At 100,000 miles u need a tune-up. You need to lubricate all doorlocks, the throttle body cable spring, change the fuelfilter every 15,000 or less so u dont run into starting troubles.
