The C6 is for big block Ford and Mercury motors, the C4 was for small blocks. Most big block Fords would tear up the C4. You can bolt all FE motors, 352, 390, 406, Mercury 410, 428 the 406 and 427 used 4 speeds but a C6 would bolt up. The 351C, 400M, 429, 460 will also bolt right up. It was built to handle those large motors.

There are three different bell housing patterns. The first are the small block 289, 302, 351w. The second are the 351m/cleveland, 429, 460 family. The third is the FE family most common are the 360, 390, 428. There is no interchange between them without a bell housing change.
