My mustang has lost a lot of power since l purchased it about 3 years ago. My 02 Ford Explorer has more get up and go then my mustang. It is like it just does not wanna go, and l changed the spark plugs in it a couple of months ago. l need some help on this. l do not want my car to rot away, so if anyone could give me a suggestion on why it is losing power l would really appreciate it. It is the 5.0 liter engine.

change th fuel filter. im sure that aint the problem but its something to start with cause you havent said if it has a shake makes a noise or anything.

First step, if it is just seeming sluggish is to get a good tune up, plugs, wires, set timing, maybe have the fuel system flushed and carbon cleaned from the engine. If you have a lot of miles on it, then have them do a compression check, make sure all is within specs. l have a '95 GT (last of the 5.0) with 162,000+ miles and it still runs strong. A good tune is where l would start.

Take it in for a complete maintenance/tune-up by a pro who knows what he is doing with Fords. Have him check the compression along the way.

besides a tuneup, check the wheels after a run to see if they are hot, you could have dragging brakes..

Do a tune up it is an old model and check to see if all the hoses are connected and see if they are old and need replacement also check the belt that drives the engine. If that does not work check your compression and get that fixed bad compression can make for a slow car as well as problems. 5.0 engine not bad for a car.

All previous have been pretty helpful. l have to 94 Mustang Gt is so l know about them. l would do the tune-up with wires, spark plugs, cap & rotor, air, fuel filter & oil change. If its automatic l suggest u do a filter & fluid change for it as well .After that check compression if everything is good then maybe u should put a little but of money into slightly modifying it. the biggest thing is take it to a performance shop that works on differential & install some 3.55 gears, that is a ratio & will help improve acceleration dramatically, u could go with something higher than 3.55 is but for drive-ability Id say go with those. a cold air intake or at least a K&N drop in air filter go along way too.
